We want you on our community panel!

Want to have your voice heard and help make technology fairer?

We’d love you to join our panel that will explore issues around technology and how we can make society fairer for all. During the two-day event you will be helping us make decisions about funding for projects.

Technological innovation has great potential – the potential to massively improve and enhance the quality of people’ lives, but also the potential to harm the interests of the most vulnerable in society and reinforce inequality.

Not-Equal, the EPSRC Network+ on Social Justice through the Digital Economy, aims to create the conditions for technologies to support social justice by building a network of collaborations between researchers, industry, civil society and the public sector. To help it achieve this, Not-Equal is funding research to develop innovative and practical responses to issues of social justice in the design of technology and its application in everyday life.

This is why we need you to join our community panel, which will judge the social impact of a set of proposals submitted for funding. You do not need any specific qualifications, knowledge or experience, and you will be supported and guided over the two days so that you feel confident about saying what you think of the proposals.

The two-day event will be held in central Newcastle on Tuesday 7th and Wednesday 8th May, from 10am to 4pm at the latest. Lunch, refreshments and transport to the venue (exact location to be confirmed) is provided, as well £100 Intu Eldon Square vouchers as recognition of your time.

It will involve:

  • Small-group activities to share experiences and explore issues
  • Coming up with guidelines together that we can use to judge the projects
  • Using these guidelines to assess the way the projects will impact on ordinary people’s lives

This will be a great experience for panellists – you will meet new people and learn new things in a relaxed and friendly atmosphere, as well as gaining a valuable addition to your CV and contributing to a fairer society.

If you join us, over the course of two days you will get to make choices that will have a real impact on society!
